Hello!

Hope you're having a lovely week and maybe seeing some sunshine and a few signs of spring? 🪻

You may have seen more discussion online recently about the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill as it reaches its later stages in the House of Lords and continues to be amended.

It’s a topic that’s raising a lot of concern and strong feelings. This week I’ve put together a post to help families make sense of what’s being shared online, especially social media, and focus on accurate information and practical next steps. I don’t want to minimise anyone’s worries - it’s really important to scrutinise the Bill and its proposed changes - but this post points to trusted sources to help families feel more informed and less overwhelmed.

A Few Other Things...

ā›·ļø The Winter Olympics start this week in Italy. Learning resources are available at Getset.co.uk, the Olympics website and there's a good summary for kids on the BBC website. The opening ceremony is this Friday at 6.30pm UK time.

šŸŽØ There are two weeks left to enter the Global Canvas Art Competition based on the theme The Book of Life. This is an annual art competition run by the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation for children aged up to 16.

🌱 Last weekend was the Celtic festival of Imbolc, the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. If you'd like to mark or celebrate this hopeful point in the year, The Green Parent website has some really lovely activities here.

Puzzle Time:

šŸ”¢ This one had my daughter and I scratching our heads this week:

Arrange the numbers 1 - 10 in the shape of a pyramid (1 number at the top, 2 numbers in the next row down, 3 in the next row & 4 in the bottom row). The numbers must be arranged so that each number is equal to the difference of the two numbers directly below it. For example, if 5 and 1 are next to each other in the same row, then 4 must be placed on top of them.

Last week's answer: 888 + 88 + 8 + 8 + 8 =1,000

"Well, I never knew that!"

šŸ¦› Hippos can't swim! Instead they walk, run or gallop underwater to propel themselves off the riverbed. Watch more here.

Quote of the Week

"Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood."

Marie Curie

Joke of the Week

šŸ¦› How can you get a hippo to do whatever you want?

Hipponotism!

Take care and Happy Imbolc! 🌱
